I saw her last night I can't explain just what I feel right now There's something in the way she looks at me I'm lonely tonight I can't explain just what I feel right now There's something in the way she looks at me There is much to be seen I saw you last night There's something in the way she looks at me Well there's something in the way she looks at me
Written on an electric guitar and actually written by Mark for an unsigned-band-contest for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series (yes it's THAT old! LOL!). The soundtrack of the series was filled with dark, pumped up rock songs. Mark also noticed that quite a few fellows on the internet were taken with its leading lady, Sarah Michelle Gellar. So the title of the song was actually the first thing that came to mind. The opening credits of the show had a fast modern punk/rock-type theme to it. So for the series Mark constructed a punk/rock love song! The song is about a guy, seeing a girl for the first time and he falls deeply and madly in love with her. But wait a minute, he's not falling for a real person, but a character on TV. The last verse he's actually watching her in person as he turns stalker-boy on her and loses his mind over her literally. Yep, he's a goner! Naturally, by the time the demo was completed, the contest was already over...ah well... When Mark and Ralph travelled to the US of A to record this track with the amazing Kenny Aronoff in January of 2003, the song didn't have the acoustic intro it has now. It just had a count-in with Mark screaming "TWO-THREE-FOUR!" The session was engineered by Paul Mahern, who also produced, engineered and mixed some of John Mellencamp's albums. He commented that the acoustic guitar in the verse after the solo (the only spot that had an acoustic guitar) had a great avant-garde feel to it. An oasis of peace in a pool of mayhem. So we expanded the oasis a little, making the acoustic play the introduction to the song, before unleashing the mayhem. Thanks, Paul. |
